- In place of your exam, you will have a quiz on the Arlington documentary (viewing guide), and the two short stories ("The Ravine" and "Fine?"). This quiz will include questions about the short stories and the documentary, and the vocabulary words from the two short stories.
- A copy of both stories can be found here.
- Finish copying the vocabulary words from "The Ravine" and "Fine?" in your ISN. The words are posted under the file cabinet. You will need these words copied down in order to complete your classwork this Thursday and Friday.
- If you did not finish the analysis of "Arlington" in class today, finish it for homework. I will not check this or take it up until I return to school on Monday, so just make sure to get it done before then, and have it in class with you.

- Poetry portfolios are due on Tuesday, May 17th. We will work on the portfolios everyday in class this week. What you do not finish in class this week, will be homework. This project will count as a major grade. No oops passes will be accepted, and ten points will be deducted for everyday the assignment is late. The instructions and rubirc are posted under the file cabinet.
- Study for your poetry unit test tomorrow. The study guide is posted under the file cabinet.
- Complete the simile and metaphor practice handout for homework tonight.
- If you did not finish the Paul Revere's Ride analysis in class today, finish it for homework. A copy of the poem has been posted under the file cabinet.
- You will have a poetry unit test this Thursday, May 5th. The study guide has been posted under the file cabinet.
- Complete the personification and hyperbole practice handout.
- Your poetry unit test will be this Thursday, May 5th. The test will cover everything we have discussed throughout the poetry units. Notes should be in your composition notebook and your binder. All notes are posted under the file cabinet as well.
- We will not have homework next week due to testing. Please take some time to review the documents posted under the file cabinet (common writing mistakes, transitions, test taking strategies) to prepare for the SC Ready test. This is all review, but it would be helpful to go over it, since much of it was discussed at the beginning of the school year. The ELA portions of the test will be next Tuesday and Wednesday.

- You will have a quiz on your poetry terms and definitions this Thursday, April 21st. The powerpoint with the terms and definitions has been posted under the file cabinet.
- Infographics are due tomorrow. They will count as a major grade. The rubric and instructions for how to submit them are posted under the file cabinet.
- Honor Flight letters are due this Thursday, April 14th. The guidelines for the letter are posted under the file cabinet. I will give you a hard copy in class tomorrow.
- Infographics are due this Friday, April 15th.
- Complete the Narrowing Your Topic handout tonight if you do not finish in class today. Choose one out of the three topics to research for you infographic.
- Come prepared to begin infographic research projects in the morning. You should have created a username (your Langston email address) and login by tomorrow. Here is the website: https://www.easel.ly/
- Infographic will be due next Friday, April 15th. We will work in the computer lab during class tomorrow and Friday, and the rest of the work will be done on your own at home. This will count as a major grade.
- Review your notes on research skills that we took in class today. The notes are posted under the file cabinet.
- Study for your nonfiction quiz tomorrow.
- You will have a nonfiction quiz this Tuesday, March 22nd. The quiz will be on the following topcis: Topic, topic sentence, main idea, supporting details; Author’s purpose; Text Structure; Author’s Bias; Fact vs. Opinion.
- All notes from the nonfiction unit are posted under the file cabinet.
- Complete the text structures practice handout. The notes that we took in class today are posted under the file cabinet. You should use these notes to help you complete the assignment.
- Study for your quiz tomorrow on sentence fragments and run-ons. We will finish reviewing the author's purpose info-graphic assignment that we did in class today. I have a posted a copy of the document in the filing cabinet. The pictures on the word document are clearer than the ones on the hard copy I gave you in class today. You may want to double check your answers after looking at the copy I have posted.
- We will have a quiz on fragments and run-ons next Tuesday, March 15th. You should be studying your notes on sentence structure and clauses in your ISN and your practice handouts that we've done in class.
- Q3 Reading RIOT is due tomorrow. This assignment is your last major grade of the nine weeks. It will be ten points off for every day it is turned in late. The instructions and rubric for this assignment are posted under the file cabinet.
- Study guide questions for "Stray" are due at the beginning of class tomorrow. Make sure to answer all questions in complete sentences.
- Study for your quiz on "Stray" tomorrow. The quiz will cover the story, vocabulary from the story, the plot mountain notes, and pronouns.
- If you did not finish the analyzing details and identifying facts handout that we started in class today, finish it for homework tonight. A copy of the story is posted under the file cabinet in case you need it to complete the homework.
- We will have a quiz on "Stray" this Friday, February 17th. The quiz will cover the story, the vocabulary words, and pronouns.
- Finish the writing assignment for the Prince and the Pauper for homework tonight. The assignment is posted under the file cabinet. Make sure to answer all parts of the question and proofread your paragraph.
- Study for your quiz on the Prince and the Pauper tomorrow. The quiz will cover the play and the vocabulary frmo the play. Answers to the study guide questions are posted under the file cabinet. The vocabulary words are also posted under the file cabinet.
- You will have a quiz on the Prince and the Pauper this Wednesday, Feb. 8th. This quiz will cover the play and the vocabulary from the play.
- Q3 Reading RIOT is due on Wednesday, March 9th.
- Complete four squares for your vocabulary words from The Prince and the Pauper. The four square should include the word in the middle, the definition, the part of speech, a picture or symbol, and use the word in a sentence. You should have a four square for each vocabulary word. The words are posted under the file cabinet.
- Make sure to choose your Q3 Reading RIOT book by this Friday. You should have the book with you in class everyday.
- Study for your quiz tomorrow on your drama guided notes and quotation marks.
- Complete the quotation mark handout. Use your notes that we took in class today (also posted to the file cabinet) to complete your homework.
- FTM portfolios due tomorrow.
- Study for your FTM unit test tomorrow. The study guide is posted under the file cabinet.
- If you did not finish your map for your FTM portfolio in class today, finish it tonight for homework. Portfolios are due on Friday, and will count as a major grade. You will have one more class day (tomorrow) to work on your portfolio. What doesn't get done in class will be homework tomorrow and Thursday night.
- Your unit test on FTM is this Thursday, January 21st.
- FTM portfolio projects are due Friday, January 22nd. This assignment will count as a major grade, and will be on your 3rd nine weeks grading period.

- Reading RIOT is due tomorrow. This is your last major grade of the 2nd nine weeks. Instructions and the rubric are posted under the file cabinet.
- The FTM movie analysis is due on Wednesday.
- FTM movie permission forms are due tomorrow. This is a homework grade, and I must have a permission form from you in order to let you watch the movie. Students without a signed permission form will be given an alternate assignment to do in a another room.
- Bring in your signed movie permission form for FTM by Tuesday, December 15th at the latest. This will count as a homework grade.
- Study for your quiz tomorrow. The quiz will be on chapter 8-15 in FTM, the FTM vocabulary list 2 words, and commas.
- Write compound or complex sentences using your last five vocabulary words from the FTM vocabulary list 2. You will not receive credit for your sentences if you don't write them as a compound or complex sentence.
- We will have a quiz on FTM chapters 8-12, vocabulary list 2, and commas next Wednesday, December 9th.
- Using your first five vocabulary words from FTM vocab. list 2, create four squares for each word. The four square should include the word, definition, part of speech, picture or symbol, and a sentence using the word correctly.
- Study for your quiz tomorrow. The quiz will be on FTM chapters 1-7, vocabulary list 1, and conflict terms and examples.
- Using your words from FTM vocabulary list one, write compound and/or complex sentences using each word in a sentence.
- Study for your sentence structure test tomorrow. The study guide has been posted under the file cabinet. Make sure you bring your reading RIOT book with you to read after you finish your test.
- Complete the sentence structure practice handout. You will have a sentence structure test this Wednesday, so make sure to study your notes and practice that we've done in class.
- Complete the complex sentence practice handout. The notes on complex sentences should be in your ISN, and are also posted under the file cabinet. You should use your notes to help you complete the homework.
- Freak the Mighty webquests are due tomorrow at the beginning of class. This assignment counts as a major grade. Make sure to review the rubric to make sure that you have included all of the necessary information. This assignment is posted under the file cabinet.
- Reading RIOT for Q2 is due on January 5th, 2016. Instructions and rubrics are posted in the file cabinet.
- Study for your quiz tomorrow. The quiz will be on genres, independent and dependent clauses, and compound sentences. All notes for these subjects are posted under the file cabinet.
- Make sure you bring your webquest with you to class tomorrow, so you can work on the paragraph responses after the quiz tomorrow. The webquest will be due on Tuesday, November 10th, and will count as a major grade.
- Have your reading RIOT book for Q2 chosen and with you in class on Friday, November 6th.
- Study for your quiz on sentence structures and genres this Thursday.
- We will have a quiz on genres and sentence structure on Thursday, November 5th.
- Make sure you have chosen your Q2 Reading RIOT book by this Friday, November 6th.
- Choose your second quarter reading RIOT book by next Friday, November 6th. The requirements for choosing the book are the same as the first nine weeks. The book must be 200 pages or more, it cannot be a graphic novel, and it cannot be a book that you have read. I will go over the requirements for the project in class next week. Once you've chosen your book, make sure you have it with you in class everyday.
- You will have your grammar unit test tomorrow. The test will cover capitalization, apostrophes, commonly confused words, and subjects are predicates. Use your notes and your practice handouts to study. I have also posted some links to some under the "Grammar Practice" tab at the top of the page that you can use to help you study.
- You do not have any written homework because we are presenting reading RIOT projects this week, but your will have a cumulative grammar test this Thursday. Make sure to study your notes and the practice we've done in class. The test will be on commonly confused words, capitalization, apostrophes, and subjects and predicates. All notes for these units are posted under the file cabinet. You can also use the links to the grammar games on my home page to help you prepare for the test.
- Reading RIOT projects are due tomorrow. The instructions and rubric are posted under the file cabinet.
- We will have a cumulative grammar test on October 22nd. You should review your notes in your ISN and the practice we have done in class to prepare for this test. Make sure to review a few minutes each night. All notes are also posted under the file cabinet.
- Study for your "Names Nombres" quiz tomorrow. The quiz will cover the vocabulary words (posted under the file cabinet) and the story.

- Bring in a picture (drawn or printed) to represent each of your vocabulary words from "Names Nombres." The words are posted under the file cabinet.
- The student survey/parent interview for "Names Nombres" is due this Thursday. Make sure to answer all questions in complete sentences in order to receive credit for the questions.
- You will have a quiz on the "Names Nombres" vocabulary and the story this Friday.

- Study for your quiz tomorrow. The study guide is posted under the file cabinet, and all your notes for the quiz should be in your ISN.
- Bring in your Reading RIOT tomorrow so you can read after you finish your quiz.
- Choose a reading RIOT book by next Wednesday. The rubric and instructions are posted under the file cabinet. This project is due on Wednesday, October 14th.
- We will have a quiz next Wednesday, September 16th on commonly confused words, capitalization, and apostrophes. Review your notes in your ISN, homework assignments, and practice that we've done in class to prepare for this quiz.
- Study for your test on TLT. The study guide questions are posted under the file cabinet if you need another copy of them. The test will include 45 multiple choice and 4 short answer questions.
- TLT maps due at the beginning of class tomorrow. Finish writing your description of your four places if you did not finish it in class today. Also, make sure to study for your test on TLT that will be this Thursday. We will be playing a review game in class tomorrow.
- Complete the "Apostrophe Rules" practice handout. Use your notes from you ISN that we took in class today to help you complete this assignment. These notes are also posted on under the file cabinet. This is due at the beginning of class tomorrow.
- If you did not finish copying the notes in class, they are posted under the file cabinet so you can finish them at home tonight.
- Complete the "Capitalization Rules" practice handout. Make sure to rewrite the sentences with the correct word. This will count as a homework grade, and will be graded for accuracy. Make sure to rewrite the sentences, like we talked about in class today. You DO NOT have to write the rule that goes with each questions; just rewrite the sentences with the capitalization corrections.
- If you did not finish copying the notes in class, they are posted under the file cabinet so you can finish them at home tonight.
- Complete the "Commonly Confused Words" practice handout. Make sure to rewrite the sentences with the correct word. This will count as a homework grade, and will be graded for accuracy.
- Introduction letters are due at beginning of class tomorrow. Make sure to double check the rubric and guidelines to make sure that you have everything you need included in your letter. This assignment will count as a quiz grade.
- Introduction letters will be due this Thursday. We will be working on this assignment in class this week, but if you aren't done by Thursday, you will finish it for homework on Wednesday night.
